A Next Generation Human Platform
The Role of Governments in Building Social Crowdsourcing Platforms
Over the past decade, central and local governments in South Korea have been attempting to develop effective civic participation processes. Efforts include open platforms for citizen participation and online government innovation forums using crowdsourcing methods.
Dark Matter Labs is partnering with Daegu Metropolitan City, Daegu Technopark and KAIA to shape platform government strategies in relation to the Korean government’s “Smart city” scheme. By looking at global initiatives that are designed to meet rapidly changing societal needs, the study examines both the technological and social impacts in positioning, planning and operating the public social crowdsourcing platform. The study further details the various contexts and possibilities that influence the way the platform ecosystem operates — driving behaviour changes, ways of achieving societal consensus, decision-making, and collaborative agenda/policy-making. Currently, Daegu Metropolitan City is prototyping the city’s social crowdsourcing platform through the creation of an ecosystem and investing in long-term outcomes.
