Linen Quarter BID

Supporting a zero-carbon and circular Belfast

Dark Matter Labs is working with the Linen Quarter Business Improvement District and Arup to identify, prototype and scale opportunities to support the transition to zero-carbon and circular neighbourhoods in Belfast.

As part of the ongoing work, the partners have conducted a Material Flow Analysis of an office building in the Linen Quarter to identify opportunities to improve circularity and reduce building-related emissions. Providing a series of actionable interventions as part of a broader case study highlighting more sustainable building operations and refurbishment practices.

Working alongside Arup, DML has also produced a scoping document which explores how Belfast could adopt a people and nature-first approach to mobility and public realm interventions, whilst unlocking wider green infrastructure derived benefits, by taking inspiration from Barcelona Superblocks and other European precedents.
