Global Covenant of Mayors

The Climate Emergency is here and demand is growing for climate action that matches the scale and urgency of the challenge. With 75% of Europe’s people and 55% globally already living in urban areas, addressing climate resilience and sustainability demands a focus on cities.

While political leaders across the continent are setting ambitious targets to achieve net-zero emissions, how to deliver on this at a pace and scale necessary remains unknown.

Dark Matter Labs is supporting EIT Climate-KIC to work with the most ambitious mayors and municipalities in Europe to co-create a portfolio of joined-up strategic experiments that provide them with new knowledge, innovations and capabilities that can aid them in their Climate Action Plans - from mobility to waste to energy to health and the built environment - and help other cities to navigate the great transitions required for ‘Transformation in Time’.

“Continuing to work through gradual, incremental changes will not be enough. What is needed now is a fundamental transformation of economic, social and financial systems to trigger exponential increases in decarbonisation rates and climate resilience.” - EIT Climate-KIC’s Transformation, in Time strategy, 2019-2022.
